Education

1. "They felt driven to lift their children toward light and to greater usefulness by education. That drive is more than a cultural tradition. It is the natural fruit of living the gospel of Jesus Christ. ...Those who have planted the good word of God and have served faithfully invariably have awakened in them a great desire for self-improvement. And with that comes a desire to learn more and to gain greater skills."
-Henry B. Eyring, "Real-Life Education" April 2009 New Era

2. "We believe in education. The Lord has laid a mandate upon His people that they become acquainted with the things of the earth, as well as the things of the Spirit. He has laid an obligation upon us to get all the schooling that we have. Education becomes the key of opportunity for everyone in this life. It may involve sacrifice, it may involve unusual effort, but with the help of heaven, it can be had."
-Gordon B. Hinckley, "Words of the Living Prophet" Nov. 2001 Liahona

3. "We live in a highly competitive age, and it will only grow worse. Education is the key that will unlock the door of opportunity. You may plan on marriage, and hope for it, but you are not certain that it will come. And even though you marry, education will be of great benefit to you."
-Gordon B. Hinckley, "Let Virtue Garnish Thy Thoughts Unceasingly" April 2007 General Conference

4. "In our quest for truth, we need to seek the help of our loving Heavenly Father. His Spirit can direct and intensify our efforts to learn and magnify our ability to assimilate truth. This learning with the Spirit is not confined to classrooms or preparation for school examinations. It applies to everything we do in life and every place we do it—at home, at work, and at church."
-Dallin H. Oaks, "Learning and Latter-day Saints" April 2009 Liahona

5. "Because of our sacred regard for each human intellect, we consider the obtaining of an education to be a religious responsibility."
-Russell M. Nelson, "Where Is Wisdom?" Nov. 1992 Ensign

6. "In addition, your education will strengthen your service in the Church. A study was made some years ago that indicated the higher the education, the greater the faith and participation in religious activity."
-Gordon B. Hinckley, "Words of the Prophet: Seek Learning" Sept. 2007 New Era

7. "Perhaps more than any other people of like size, we are deeply committed to the development of the skills and talents of our sisters, for we believe our educational program is not simply education for this world, but involves an education for all eternity."
-Spencer W. Kimball, "The True Way of Life and Salvation" April 1978 General Conference

8. "For members of the Church, education is not merely a good idea—it’s a commandment. We are to learn 'of things both in heaven and in the earth, and under the earth; things which have been, things which are, things which must shortly come to pass; things which are at home, things which are abroad.'"
-Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Learn!" Sept. 2011 Friend

9. "Do not short-circuit your education. ...Education is a shortcut to proficiency. It makes it possible to leapfrog over the mistakes of the past. Regardless of the vocation you choose, you can speed your journey in getting there through education."
-Gordon B. Hinckley, "Four B's for Boys" Nov. 1981 Ensign

10. "After all, education continues as long as we live. If there is ever an end to secular learning, surely there is no end to spiritual learning."
-Boyd K. Packer, "To Be Learned Is Good If..." Oct. 1992 General Conference

Why This Matters:
Learning is powerful. Getting an education and learning all we can has been stressed by the living prophets. We need to get an education, not just because it will help us economically, but because it is something of eternal significance. We are better parents, leaders and members of the Church when we have gotten all the education we can.
